एक गौरवशाली प्रवास
नागपूर येथील सरस्वती मंदिर संचालित 'कै. सौ. विद्यावती जोगळेकर वाचनालया'चा पाया १९६३ मध्ये पडला. त्या वर्षी नागपूर येथे पार पडलेल्या एका साहित्य संमेलनात 'सरस्वती मंदिर' संस्थेने अत्यंत उत्साहाने आणि मनापासून भाग घेतला होता. या उल्लेखनीय सहभागाबद्दल संमेलनाच्या कार्यकारी मंडळाने सरस्वती मंदिराला २५० रुपयांची देणगी दिली. या प्राप्त देणगीतून काही उत्तम पुस्तके खरेदी करून एक वाचनालय सुरू करावे, असा संकल्प संस्थेने सोडला.
पुढे, दानशूर व्यक्तींकडून कै. सौ. विद्यावती जोगळेकर यांच्या स्मृतिप्रीत्यर्थ संस्थेला भरीव आर्थिक देणगी मिळाली. या दातृत्वाचा आदर राखत संस्थेने या वाचनालयाचे नाव 'विद्यावती जोगळेकर वाचनालय' असे ठेवले. वर्ष १९६६ मध्ये हे वाचनालय अधिकृतपणे सुरू झाले.
सद्यस्थिती आणि प्रगती
- शासकीय मान्यता : सातत्यपूर्ण प्रगतीमुळे या वाचनालयाला शासनाची अधिकृत मान्यता मिळाली असून, त्याला 'ब' दर्जा प्राप्त झाला आहे. त्यानुसार वाचनालयाला नियमित शासकीय अनुदानही मिळते.
- हक्काची नवी वास्तू : वर्ष २०२४ मध्ये वाचनालयाच्या शिरपेचात आणखी एक मानाचा तुरा रोवला गेला. सरस्वती मंदिराच्याच जागेत वाचनालयाला स्वतःची हक्काची, अत्यंत सुरेख आणि सर्व सोयींनी सुसज्ज अशी नवीन जागा मिळाली.
- समृद्ध ग्रंथसंपदा : आज या वाचनालयात १८,००० पेक्षा जास्त पुस्तकांचा संग्रह असून, अनेक वाचक या समृद्ध ज्ञानभांडाराचा नियमित लाभ घेत आहेत.

- वार्षिक निबंध स्पर्धा – महिलांसाठी.
- साहित्यिक कार्यक्रम – धोंडो केशव कर्वे जयंतीनिमित्त, दरवर्षी १४ एप्रिल रोजी.
- वाचनकट्टा : दर महिन्यात एकदा एका पुस्तकाचे रसग्रहण, समीक्षण करून चर्चा केली जाते. मार्च २०२६ पासून हा उपक्रम सुरू झाला.
A Glorious Journey
The foundation of the 'Late Sou. Vidyawati Joglekar Library', run by Saraswati Mandir, Nagpur, was laid in 1963. That year Saraswati Mandir participated with great enthusiasm in a literary conference (Sahitya Sammelan) held in Nagpur. In appreciation of this remarkable participation, the conference's executive committee gave Saraswati Mandir a donation of ₹250. The institution resolved to use this donation to buy good books and start a library.
Later, the institution received a substantial financial donation from generous donors in memory of Late Sou. Vidyawati Joglekar. Honouring this generosity, the library was named the 'Vidyawati Joglekar Library'. It formally opened in 1966.
Present Status and Progress
- Government recognition: Thanks to its consistent progress, the library holds official government recognition with a 'B' grade, and accordingly receives a regular government grant.
- A new home of its own: The year 2024 added another feather to the library's cap — within the Saraswati Mandir premises, the library received its own beautiful, fully equipped new space.
- A rich collection: Today the library holds more than 18,000 books, and a large community of readers regularly benefits from this treasure of knowledge.
Activities
- Annual essay competition – for school students.
- Annual essay competition – for women.
- Literary programme – on Dhondo Keshav Karve Jayanti, every year on 14 April.
- Vachan Katta (Readers' Circle): once a month, a book is appreciated, reviewed and discussed. This activity began in March 2026.
